Center for Critical Inquiry and Cultural Studies (CCICS)

The Center for Critical Inquiry and Cultural Studies (CCICS), a unit within the School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies (SHArCS) of ASU’s New College, supports the research agendas, portfolios, and creative activities of faculty in the arts, humanities, and cultural studies.  CCICS has three related areas of focus:

  1. To foster and sustain vibrant intellectual communities for the faculty of New College in the arts, humanities, and cultural studies.
  2. To support the advancement and distribution of New College faculty research in the arts, humanities, and cultural studies.
  3. To promote innovative relationships and collaborative research among ASU faculty in the arts, humanities, and cultural studies more broadly.

Based in our diverse and unique grouping of scholars in the humanities, arts, intermedia, performance, cultural studies, and social/critical theory, we are a hub for  humanistic inquiry, artistic expression, and creative interdisciplinary collaboration. CCICS’s research clusters invigorate campus-wide conversations, provide sites of performance, initiate public forums, and boost individual faculty research achievements. We promote critical and creative inquiry along many lines, including collaborative scholarship and artistic production, and cutting-edge historical study of disparate cultures and societies.
